A True Story of the Private Ginza Police Blu-ray Limited Slipcover Edition
Following Japan’s defeat in WW2, a group of restless former soldiers (Toei yakuza eiga veterans Noburu Ando, Tatsuo Umemiya, Hideo Murota, and Tsunehiko Watase) band together to form a criminal gang in bombed out Tokyo out of sheer desperation, anger, and boredom. Once on top of the yakuza scene in the lawless Ginza district, things quickly fall apart and the former partners begin to turn on each other, leading to an explosive bloodbath finale and the utter degradation of any survivors.
A TRUE STORY OF THE PRIVATE GINZA POLICE, directed by genre chameleon Junya Sato, is the nihilistic pinnacle of the jitsuroku or ‘true account’ style of yakuza films from the early to mid-1970s - A wild tumult of blood, drugs, guns, and a shocking disregard for general human decency, captured with a constantly moving handheld camera and scored with a dissonant, improvised jazz-skronk soundtrack.
This Neon Eagle Video Blu-ray release marks the US home video premiere and the worldwide disc debut of this undercelebrated classic of the Japanese gangster genre, taken from a 2K restoration straight from the vaults of Toei studio.
